Web Summit, the greatest technology event in the World, is held annually in Lisbon, Portugal and Touch was there to get an immersion on the new trends in the market. The outcome was very exciting as much was debated about Content, Streaming, Privacy on the internet and the growth of world’s internet users.
The Summit ran for 4 amazing days and had more than 1,200 talks, 1,800 startups showing their projects and 70,000 visitors from all over the world.
Coincidently, at the moment Touch is promoting an internal digital restructuring, which makes the timing perfect for participating in such an event. “At our booth at APEX Expo 2018 in Boston last September, it became clear that we have a lot of incredible and disruptive projects and solutions for our customers, that need to be more broadly showcased. As a consequence we have been creating a digital marketing strategy that will be live soon”, says Mariana Levy, Director of Special Projects.
Our newest addition to team, Adriana Leal based out of Touch’s Lisbon office, was our representative at Web Summit and spoke of the event’s highlights.
“Among the 24 stages at the Web Summit, the Content’s Makers stage was the best showing how people are consuming and interacting with content.”

• Twitch: millions of people are connected to this gaming platform, not only to play, but also to watch others play;
• Netflix: 137 million users worldwide and now achieving major international success in non-English series such as the Brazilian hit “3%” and the Spanish “La Casa de Papel”, showcasing the relevance of Lusophone and Latin markets;
• BBC Studios has shown short videos of wildlife, but in a totally different way. Videos that catch the attention of the viewer through a human and responsible outlook to the world, a great example of the growing “snackable” entertainment;
• Viacom’s CEO (Nickelodeon, Comedy Central, MTV and Bet) shared the group’s approach to reach the younger generations, that did not engage with the “legacy” TV Entertainment, explaining the specific strategies for key social media platforms: YouTube, Facebook, Snapchat, Instagram and Twitter. The exercise resulted in double time engagement on each channel.
Web Summit 2018 was indeed and amazing event, that Touch will definitely continue to attend regularly. It enriches our knowledge of the latest technology developments that will be incorporated into our strategies for Inflight Entertainment and its opportunities.
The digital trends on the ground are organically expected by the passenger on the inflight environment and Touch, as a key element in the inflight experience supply chain, must never stop being actively engaged and connected with an ecosystem as Web Summit promotes to answer to these demands.
